The Story “A Murder Is Announced” by Agatha Christie took place in a small English village of Chipping Cleghorn after the World War II. It was a normal Friday morning. But strangely there is a special advertisement on the corner of the local newspaper the Gazette – “A murder is announced and will take place on Friday, October 29th, at Little Paddocks, at 6:30P.M. Friends please accept this, the only intimation.” Most of the people who saw this advertisement thought it is a game party announcement and felt excited about it, but they don’t know a true murder is coming…
I think Agatha Christie’s novels are always fascinating but at the same time it takes a long time to get to the story, this time is not a different one, yet I have read to chapter three, the famous detective Hercule Poirot is still not showing up (I know he’s going to show up because he’s the only detective of Agatha’s novels). Although she starts it with a long beginning, the clues Agatha left about the coming murder already make me feel excited, just like at the end of the first chapter, an innocent girl who’s going to the announced murder sang a song about the event at night,
“It’s a fine murdering day.
And as balmy as May
And the sleuths from the village are gone,
And we’ll all go a’ murdering today!”,
The feeling of peace before the storm is so strong that I can’t imagine how this girl will react to the real murder, and I can’t wait to read the next page now!
